PS3 Hacked? New Concept Video

Reports are coming in that a hacker has managed to get backups running on the PS3 in both illegal and legal methods. His video shows Warhawk running from HDD and to do the hack legally, you need a 60GB HDD and original disc, he says 3 games are confirmed to boot under this method (disc doesn't need to be inserted while playing) and speculates that many more will work.

The video shows:

- Warhawk running from HDD

- no PKG version

- no WH disc while WH is running

- Motorstorm running as proxy disc

- legal way

I wont explain the details here till the project is finished 100%, also cuz many devs want to take a look at first and not get it patched that fast. I can say that if all will work like I want it to you'll need:

- "special" game dump of the game you want to play from HDD

- one (any) original bd game

- 2x minimum 60GB HDD's (illegal way - it worx but its not allowed in most countrys - its working like a packed game on psp memory stick)

OR

-1 60GB HDD + original disc (legal way - no need to be inserted while playing)

Im using newest firmware PAL 60GB SKU. 3 games tested yet - working.
Games which should be possible from the knowledge i got yet:

- Warhawk
- Motorstorm
- Resistance
- GT5
- COD3
- ...

I cant check more atm, as I dont have else here. The final way will be a bit different than the video shows. Even there are 2 different ways then to do it, thats because there are 2 different groups of games. One can be done with 1 HDD but then you need the original disk of the game.

Hmm there are too many Videos out and all of them schows a loading game from HDD.
Sry but i don't beleve this until i do it my self.

EDIT:
Just looked at the German Forum where i spend a lot of time (don't know if i am allowed to post the name)
and discovered that the person who mades the hack is a german Person and is registered in our forum.
But the bad news are, he does already said 1 Jear ago (in our german Forum) that he has a working HDD loader.
But at the end it was known as a Fake and a lot of People was angry because they had already bought a Big HDD drive.
But i already looked at Dark alex blog in the PS3 section and he doesn't confirm that but he has written it into his News and may be there are some truth things with tis hack.

An other thing, i have searched a bit through the post from the hacker in our german Forum and he has posted on 02. 12. 2007 a realy interressting File (decrypted warhawk main elf file) I don't kow if the talented people here in this forum know this but here u all have it.

Look like a fake.

I know CJPC from PS3NEWS and i read its explanation (and i believe him as i know he is quite good in several domain).

To summarize a bit, like if on your pc you install everything on your HD running SETUP.EXE and after that you don't need anymore the setup disk.

I can confirm it as a legitimate one.Its not a fake,there was some bugs for the older game update files where they had .xml files and you could run them from the save data utility instead under the game menu.StreetskaterFU is a lame member of team ice but this time this is legit(he isnt really a hacker at all,he simply was lucky to discover something,he cannot code a simple hello word application for pc :P),he used PS3 proxie to alter some .xml files in order to work.This will work only for a few older and crappy games which i am not interrested at all and can be patched in a firmware update as simple as that.It will not lead us to anything more.

Yeah I agree I think its useless by the way why so many complaints on using media instead.I figure Blu-Ray media would be easier to use,because then you could use a hardware mod and not have to worry about updates.I think any soft mod hack like this one is a waste of time as mentioned the firmware updates are a big issue.I think a special dump would be the ability to dump the Blu-Ray encryption from the games(security sectors,Blu-Ray encryption key etc...) like the Xbox 360 Kreon firmware technique in a way.I think its possible to create a hack that could extract all the content if you can get the firmware off a Lite-On DH-401S drive and modify it just my thoughts.Although the Lite-On drive wouldn't be able to burn after it created the image,so it would cost a decent amount of money.I believe it can be done,but not anytime soon like everyone expects.I have seen nand dumps from the PS3,but I haven't found a dump of the firmware off the PS3 BD drive or seen anyone hook a programmer up to the BD drive.I think if a hack is going to exist the BD drive has to be looked at intensely.

This is apparently the method of how to use this exploit! Let us know if you have tried it and it works for you.

Heres what you need to do!

1.You need two hds that are the same size eg 80gb x2 60gb x2 having problems with 40gig at the moment but need more testing.

2.Insert one of the Hdd into the ps3 and format it, then install Warhawk original disc fully and restart the ps3.

3.Now turn off your PS3 and pull out the Hdd


((Now you need winhex to clone the PS3 hdd onto your other hdd))


4.Ok after a few hours (about 2hrs depending on hdd size) of copying instert the non clone hdd back into the PS3 and switch on

5.Now instert Original Warhawk Disc and wait for the .png to show

6.right pull the Ps3 Hdd and swap the warhawk disc with Original motorstorm disc then instert your cloned hdd into your ps3

7.You should now see the ps3 logo on screen

8.And warhawk should start!

9.also try cod3/gtp had some luck with this, we have rls this so you can also test, if we had rls a video it would be flammed!

10. please dont flame until you try this is work in progress and will take some time but its an expliot!

Original Motorstorm Disc (proxey), had some luck with a cloned copy but needs more testing!

Original Warhawk Disc not fully tested downloaded yet! due to this being work in progress!

This method seems to work if games save alot of data to the hdd! so there are loads to test, its a start but who knows one day soon maybe you will only need the original game once this is where we want to take it

Huh reading and understanding that take a bit 4 me.
But this is useless i think cause u have to own The original BR to boot it from HDD.
They also rumor @ Maxconsole that this is not the actual Methode of SKFU.
Maybe this is one of the 2 Methods he told, (the Legal way)
It exist an other Methode wich is better in functionality i think.

Anyway, now it's going to be exciting in the PS3 Scene.

The only thing interresting in this method is the fact that there is a hole in PS3 making that using an original you can run another one store on HD

Now this method is really confusing me :
 - Why 2 HD exactly the same (security reason in case of crash)
 - Why dumping an HD using HEXEDIT instead of NORTON GHOST or any PARTITION TOOL ???
 - Until somebody find a method to make an exact clone on HDD from a game this method is really limited and a pain to ass to use !

Jep, i agree, The only way to make a working Hdd Loader could be if we can modify the Warhawk on HDD
in that way that it loads an other Game ore elf (self) File.
(My thoughts on that.)

I think dealing with the hd is overwhelming as $ony can patch it really easy.I think using media would be my goal even if it is expensive at the moment,and you still have to use an original game with this method as well.Just my thoughts and I know the media will go down in price,because the price of dual layer media was expensive for a long time but look how cheap they are now.I think the reason you have to use 2 hd the same is because there is a string for the size of the hd embedded in the encryption.They found a way to trick the system to think the hd has never been removed.Its a flaw somewhere in the hd like you mentioned Neness kind of like the ps2 hacks in a way where the system thinks the disc is still in the system.It can be stopped with a firmware update which is a problem like I mentioned.They need to focus on a method that won't be affected by firmware updates,and you know $ony releases them pretty frequent.

I think the only reason why u have to pull out the HDD in this Methode is because if u put in a BR ore DVD the Boot options+maybe the preview splash in the XMB are written on the HDD.
If u pull out the Hdd right after the preview splash in XMB is loaded there is still the boot option on it and the PS3 has no chance to delete it cause the HDD is not inserted any more.
jep okay If we can use BR disc it would be the best solution.
May be there will come out something like Swap magic for ther PS3.
